Daily Prompt: BYOB(ookworm) – Subtext

Prompt: Write the blurb for the book jacket of the book you’d write, if only you had the time and inclination. LINK

As an only child and sensitive soul, Delilah has always been fascinated by self-help books. From relationships to inner peace, from Taoism to pragmatism, from Venus to Mars – Delilah has read them all in her quest for self improvement.

When her much loved neighbour Eleanor dies leaving Delilah the contents of her attic, Delilah discovers a dusty box, hidden deep in the recesses of the loft. Within the box are ancient texts from all four corners of the Earth, covered in cryptic notes.

When Delilah attempts some rudimental translations of the text, she discovers that these pages contain what appear to be ancient forms of self-help and spiritual guidance. Enlisting the assistance of her friend and college associate Owen, she attempts to translate the text – hoping to assimilate the ultimate self-help book.

But when Owen disappears without a trace, leaving just half-translated text and more mysterious notes, Delilah discovers the writings are not what they seem and that enlightenment comes at a shocking price.
